Discussion with Wojtek Szymkowiak

Wojtek SzymkowiakRecently we sat down with Wojtek (voy-tec) Szymkowiak, Director of Client Services at Health Answers Education to discuss with him his recent UNISON experiences and trends in pharmaceutical training and education and the use of interactive technologies.

UNISON: From your perspective, how does UNISON impact the dynamic of the meeting?

WS: If you are looking for “wow factor,” you’ll find it in UNISON.  For us, we always want to use cutting edge techniques that are unique and help us drive behavior. We are on the frontline with end-users and UNISON provides a new tool to grab their attention and retain it throughout the meeting.

UNISON truly elevates the entire meeting and training experience. It creates excitement and engages participants the moment they walk into the room.

My experience is that UNISON has a huge impact on a launch. An event with UNISON is perceived as high-end, energy-packed and invites an atmosphere of intense competition. UNISON is a new era for us in the evolution of learning at off-site launch meetings.

UNISON: Can you think of an example where UNISON has helped to make the impossible possible, or had a greater impact than expected on a launch training event?

Wojtek 3
WS:
Probably the greatest benefit of UNISON is its unique ability to allow for engaging and exciting competitions in real time.  I believe competitions at meetings among sales reps and teams definitely helps drive learning and having the results in real time is a very valuable asset.  This alone makes a strong case for using UNISON at launch meetings.

UNISON: Tell me about a few new trends in training at launch meetings?  What will be the hot buttons of 2007?

WS: Technology will continue to play a strong role. Tools that promote immediate learning transfer are of the highest of interest. Electronic promotion tools such as tablet PCs are fast emerging as must-haves. Driving training through these tools and driving behaviors on the tablets is a hot trend and one in which UNISON should embrace. Being able to collect real-time data and conduct real-time competitions through the tablet PCs provides a dynamic learning tool.

UNISON: What impact do you believe that interactive technologies (UNISON) used in training at launch meetings have on the transfer of knowledge and learning of the representatives?

WS: Again, I would have to say that UNISON provides a great way to drive learning transfer through real-time competitions, where results are instantaneous. This provides a big advantage.

The UNISON “U-Ask” function of questions/issues and answers is also valuable and would be even more valuable if individual responses could be tracked and compiled.

UNISON: What value do you put a value on one-on-one coaching at launch events as it relates to field performance of reps?
Wojtek 5
WS:
I put coaching very high on the list. But launch events serve more as a foundation tool for building coaching and remediation for future use in the field.  Coaching time at launch meetings can be most valuable by providing more time to share and cross-pollinate with other reps.

UNISON: Talk about how the integration process of UNISON into the design elements has been for you.

UNISONWS: We want to make sure our client’s investment in UNISON pays off by utilizing its full potential. To do this, we design content elements to fit UNISON and what we need to accomplish.

That said UNISON provides a seamless delivery of learning content to application. It is an evolutionary process and we are encouraged that we can learn from each other and continually improve applications that best effect behavior and the transfer of education. Every UNISON experience results in developing something new and more effective.
